Yegor “Nightfall” Grigorenko believes that the days when a single player could turn the tide of a Dota 2 match are a thing of the past, and that the modern meta requires an equal contribution from all team members.
The player shared this opinion on YouTube.
“The current trend in Dota is that you need a very good player in every position who can contribute their 20%. But, let’s say, there used to be moments and situations in Dota when a single player could step up and make a huge difference in the game. There was that era when Miracle-, RAMZES666, and No[o]ne played really well.”
According to Yegor “Nightfall” Grigorenko, players who made their mark in Dota 2 history might not have had the strongest teammates, but they secured victories through their own efforts. However, nowadays, a lower skill level among teammates can prevent even a strong player from reaching their full potential.
“There were times, I think, when their team didn’t have the strongest players, but one guy would somehow carry them. And back then in Dota, there were moments when one player was playing really well, while his team was playing worse. Let’s say he’s the best player, but he might not have become a champion because, overall, the players on the opposing team were simply better.”
As a reminder, Yegor “Nightfall” Grigorenko previously reflected on the possibility of changing his role on the
Aurora Dota 2 roster.
