ESL announced a major project DreamLeague Division 2, which should revitalize the Dota 2 dash-2 scene, allowing many teams to close the gap with the major league.
This is reported on the official website of the tournament operator.
The key innovation will be the launch of a separate series of tournaments for clubs of the second echelon. The goal of the organizers is simple: to reduce the gap between the dash-1 and dash-2 stage, to give a chance to break into the elite to those who previously played only in the qualifications.
The new division will feature four tournaments during the season with a total prize pool of $200,000. The format, schedule and exact list of participants are promised to be revealed closer to the start.
This move from ESL could breathe life into the Dota 2 pro scene. Before, most of the little-known players had the maximum - qualifications or group stages. After the closure of the DPC this announcement looks like a real salvation for the second echelon of the pro scene.
