In today’s mini-patch for Dota 2, the developers have fixed yet another critical bug related to the
Meepo hero. The previously discovered vulnerability allowed players to cause the game client to crash and bring down the server.
The issue stemmed from the interaction between the hero’s clones and the
Town Portal Scroll item. To reproduce the bug, a user had to purchase two
Town Portal Scrolls on one of
Meepo’s clones, activate them, and then sell them on the main character.
After performing this sequence of actions, the Dota 2 client would crash, and the game server would stop functioning. Thus, the bug posed a threat not only to the user themselves but also to other players in the match, who could also lose their connection to the server.
In the new update, Valve has fixed this vulnerability. The developers have not disclosed the technical details of the fix.
Changes
Fixed a critical bug with
Meepo that allowed the game server to crash using a
Town Portal Scroll.
As a reminder, the developers had previously disabled
Meepo in Dota 2 matchmaking due to a critical bug.
