Valve might have opted to issue warnings to tier-1 Dota 2 players who used Overplus.
Streamer Johan "Gorgc" Stephansson made this assumption during a Twitch stream.
"I'm sure someone from tier-1/2 used this program. I think Valve could have just given warnings and permanently banned everyone from lower ranks. It's statistically unlikely that none of the tier-1 players used it, yet no tier-1 or tier-2 players received bans. But it's good; many people got banned. I'm not even against them getting warnings. If people stop using it, that's what matters. I just want this **** to stop"
According to him, it's unlikely that none of the top-level pro players used Overplus, yet no bans were issued. He suggested that Valve may have simply chosen to warn them about the consequences of using the program.
Despite this, Gorgc believes it's a positive development as Dota 2 matches will become more honest and fair, enhancing the gaming experience for users.
It's worth noting that numerous esports players received lifetime bans from Valve for using cheats. The probable cause was the use of the Overplus program, which provides an unfair advantage in the game.
