Thorin Explained Why Faze Declined to Sign S1mple

Duncan “Thorin” Shields believes that Faze’s management seriously considered signing Alexander “S1mple” Kostylev, but when the esports player let the team down in the final stages of the BLAST Austin Major, the organization decided against the transfer.

“At the Austin Major, S1mple—let’s just say—didn’t put his ‘extracurricular activities’ aside and acted like a complete jerk. And that was the main reason why he didn’t stay with Faze.

The rumor was that the real reason Faze ultimately didn’t sign him lies elsewhere entirely. And this is despite the fact that now they can all rewrite history retroactively and make up excuses, claiming they were on the phone with Broky right in the middle of the tournament. All of this is utter nonsense and, as far as I know, pure delusion.

Some people in the organization’s management really wanted to sign him, and some of the players weren’t opposed to it at one point. And that was precisely the main problem. For a while, everything was fine because he literally carried the team through the third stage of the Major, if you recall. But when he completely blew the playoff match and played absolutely horribly, people’s patience snapped, and everyone thought, “Screw him.”

According to a statement by Duncan “Thorin” Shields, although Alexander “S1mple” Kostylev was distracted by personal issues during the BLAST Austin Major while playing for Faze on loan, the esports player initially performed quite well, securing the team a spot in the playoffs. Because of this, Faze’s management seriously considered signing the esports player on a permanent basis, a move that was also supported by the CS2 roster members. However, when the player underperformed in the final stage, the organization decided not to sign him.
