Denis "Larl" Sigitov, the midlaner for
Team Spirit, criticized Valve for the mass ban of cheaters, particularly those who used the Overplus program. The esports player believes that it was unfair.
He made this statement during an interview at DreamLeague Season 22, published on YouTube.
"Smurfs are one thing - they warned about them. But with Overplus - obviously, it is prohibited, and all that - but there are different versions of Overplus. There is a cheat where people use just a skin changer, change skins. It seems like it's forbidden, but at least some warning, maybe, should be given initially, rather than banning everyone outright. Because with smurfs, they gave a warning"
Although the pro player acknowledges that it was obvious that Overplus should not be used, he is still dissatisfied that the Dota 2 developers did not provide warnings. He emphasized that in the case of smurfs, Valve gave players a chance to reconsider, but with Overplus, they did not do that, and many honest users fell under the ban.
This is quite an unusual position, considering that most esports players supported the blocking of third-party software that provided an advantage in matches. It is noteworthy that many professional players also received a lifetime ban from Valve.
