Valve has updated its anti-cheat system and started mass banning Dota 2 players for using Overplus during gameplay. The punishment extends not only to regular players but also to numerous esports athletes. The reason behind this is that the program provided an unfair advantage to players using it, which the developers considered as cheating.
Usage of Overplus in Dota 2
OVERPLUS is software designed for changing skins in Dota 2. With it, players gain access to all items in the game, ranging from common to unique, which are otherwise unavailable to regular players.
In addition to changing hero skins, the program allows users to modify the landscape, the appearance of towers, and other cosmetic items during gameplay. The user also gets visual features from Dota Plus and a hero-picking analyzer, formerly known as Overwolf, which helps make quick counterpicks against enemy heroes.
Why Valve is banning for Overplus usage
The issue lies not only in using paid skins but also in the fact that the program provides an unfair advantage during matches. Features such as camera zoom and counterpicks are not part of the original game and thus violate Valve's rules. Therefore, even if a player uses the program and avoids an immediate ban, it doesn't guarantee immunity during the next major cheater purge.
Penalties for Overplus in Dota 2
Notably, Overplus is considered third-party software. Therefore, Valve's anti-cheat will permanently block users caught using it. Additionally, the player's Steam account will be marked with a corresponding label, indicating that the user utilized cheats in Dota 2.
