Quinn 'Quinn' Callahan considers the situation with
BetBoom Team captain Vitaly "Save-" Melnyk's use of the
Shadow Demon bug in a match at the ESL One Birmingham 2024 tournament to be a deliberate cheat, as it's the kind of thing a cyber athlete can't train muscle memory for. Mid
Gaimin Gladiators believes that the team should have been disqualified from the tournament for such an action.
Mid
Gaimin Gladiators made a statement to this effect during the ALL CHAT podcast on CapCasts YouTube channel.
"I think a fair punishment is disqualification from the tournament. It's not even like the Pure~ situation where you can write off your actions as stupidity or absent-mindedness. There is no muscle memory for such things.
This is purely intentional cheating. There are no blurred lines there. It's unambiguous: it's against the rules to gain an unfair advantage in a competitive game. I think it's a pretty egregious case."
Aydin "iNSaNiA" Sarkoi also expressed his opinion on the incident, saying that the organizers sent a warning to all tournament participants that using the bug would result in a loss on the map.
Due to the use of the bug cyber athlete was able to prematurely pump ultimates on
Shadow Demon in the match against
G2.iG, for which the team was penalized for extra time during the drafts.
Earlier,
BetBoom Team's support Alexander 'TORONTOTOKYO' Hertek said that his team plans to take revenge on
Team Falcons for their defeat in the ESL One Birmingham 2024 Grand Final.
