Mikhail “Misha” Agatov explained that Valve should already start thinking about re-releasing Dota 2, transforming it into Dota 3.
This was said by the former
OG coach during a Twitch stream.
“Dota developers definitely need to think about eventually turning the game into Dota 3. I actually think all MOBA games have cycles and we should not forget that we are just in one of them. Just like people in the first Dota thought the game would go nowhere and freeze forever there. But Dota 2 gave new life and new stages of hype. I think the same will happen in 5–7 years if Valve decide to start working on Dota 3”
According to him, it’s already time to transform the game again, like it was with the first part of the MOBA. Misha explained that if this does not happen, the game’s online will still start dropping and gradually it will fade away.
“I think it will be a very big deal. But if it stays Dota 2 forever, the online will really keep dropping and the game will die — that’s basically a fact. So I think a rebranding is definitely needed”
In addition, the former coach said that Dota 2 needs rebranding, because in many regions people literally stopped playing this MOBA. According to him, transforming to the third part could increase online, bring new players and retain the current audience.
Likely, the words about the game relaunch are also a response to the announcement of the League of Legends re-release, where players were promised new graphics, a redesigned map, gameplay improvements and better experience for newcomers. Many already call it the launch of the second part of Riot Games’ MOBA, which is the main competitor of Dota 2.
