The esports organization OG has announced on its official website Sébastien «Ceb» Debs medical update. If Ceb is unable to play at The International 10, he will be replaced by Michael «miCKe» Vu from Team Liquid.
Rumors about the replacement of Sebastian were confirmed. He had eye problems. Sebastian had to immediately fly from the bootcamp to France, where he underwent the necessary operation. The procedure thankfully went smoothly, and Ceb is resting and recovering under the supervision of doctors. However, it is unknown if he will be able to play at The International 10.
It is uncertain whether Ceb will be cleared to play The International 10, and we will be waiting on his doctor’s verdict before making any final team decision. Players’ health and well-being is vital to us and we will ensure that he is not in any danger before returning to work. But we know for sure that Ceb is doing everything he can to expedite his recovery and compete in TI10.
While there is no official decision of the doctors, Michael «miCKe» Vu is training at the bootcamp with OG, who immediately came to Portugal at the request of the organization.
Right now the team decided to call upon Michael “Micke” Vu, from Team Liquid, to join us as our official stand-in for TI.
We are very thankful to Micke for stepping up immediately, and for joining us in Portugal the next day to start practicing with us. We are also very thankful to Team Liquid for working with us during these hard times to ensure that this loan could happen. And last but not least, a special thank you to Valve for helping and supporting us.
Sébastien «Ceb» Debs commended the situation in Twitter:
As you might already know by now, I was indeed hit with a very bad news few days ago. During a very routine medical check up, I was informed by the doctor that I was undergoing a retinal detachment in my left eye, and that I was few hours away from losing sight irreversibly. Only solution was to get emergency surgery, which I of course went through with. No matter how much we love DotA, some things will always come first. It went well, and that was the most important part.
This bad news felt like the sky collapsing on me, as you can imagine. Ever since I have been fighting every day to try to gain ground on the pain and the fatigue, hoping my recovery process would still allow me to attend TI. Unfortunately, as of now, I still can’t know if I will be back in a playing shape in time.
It is a huge blow for me and the team, of course, but over the years I have learnt to look at the positives of every challenge life throws at me.
The bright side here is that my determination and fire to get ready have never been as intense.
The bright side is that I know my team is stepping up big time, because they have my back.
The bright side is feeling your unconditional and loving support.
TI is coming, and that puts a smile on my face, whether or not I can attend.
Love you all, and see you soon hopefully
