Valve responded to lawsuits

Valve compared loot boxes to baseball and Pokémon card sets, as well as boxes of Labu-bu, noting that the company does not force players to open them.

Steam users received the corresponding letter, which was posted on Reddit, by email.

Company representatives also criticized the position of the New York Attorney General. The company claims that players open loot boxes voluntarily for cosmetic items and that it has already cooperated with state authorities, including blocking fraudulent accounts on Steam.

Valve also stated that the requirement to prohibit the transfer of items on the marketplace violates the law and emphasized that it does not intend to collect more user data than required by law. The company is prepared to comply with any future law on loot boxes, but intends to defend its position in court if necessary.

As a reminder, a class action lawsuit was previously filed against Valve, initiated by the law firm Hagens Berman.
