Valve answered the call for top-level players’ matchmaking strat egies to be kept secret. Many players, including Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen, have been requesting the closure of Dota 2 analytical websites for a long time now. Closing access to the matchmaking statistics of high MMR Dota 2 players is a good first step at curtailing the rampant stat hoarding.

As for the update itself, it changed the system for the Immortal Draft as well as the matchmaking for players with ratings over 8500. Topson, before getting off the professional scene, had been a vocal supporter of statless matchmaking. He believed that the ability to track statistics made it far too easy to counter new build sets. Alongside him, other esports players have suggested other means of making Dota more strategically engaging.

In the latest update, Valve fundamentally changed the game in terms of:

  • Players with an MMR rating of 8500 or above will no longer have their games saved to the match history.

  • Their information will be concealed via the internet API

  • Only players in a match will be allowed to download the replays

This means that any player recording the games of professional esports players will be sad, as it is expected that these amateurs would have more than the required MMR rating, which is set to 8500.

One must remember that previously Valve did also mention that they would be changing the Dota 2 matchmaking system completely after the new update came out which particular emphasized the changes in the Immortal Draft.
