Dota 2 developer, Valve, has announced on their blog that they have permanently banned over 90,000 smurf accounts that have been active over the last few months.
Usually smurfs are created to break the rules, to avoid playing at the correct MMR, to abandon games, to cheat, to grief, or to otherwise be toxic without consequence. Valve tracked the real owners of all smurf accounts and now the main account found associated with a smurf account could result in a wide range of punishments, from temporary adjustments to behavior scores to permanent account bans.
Dota 2 developers are working to improve the quality of each individual game taken, and are actively fighting against those who interfere with this. Valve asked users to report such violations in order to continue to identify violators and collect more data to improve the work on the fight against smurf accounts.
