Rotten Tomatoes has posted the first DOTA: Dragon's Blood reviews. At the moment, the animated series from Netflix has received four critics.
The journalist from Slant Magazine emphasized that the colorful world and gorgeous portraits of the heroes accompany the messy confusion of the plot:
The standout visual of Dragon’s Blood occurs in the show’s disorienting but captivating opening sequence. A picturesque still image depicts a brawl between an assortment of the game’s 120 playable characters; their arrangement, and the potential energy coursing through their battle poses, recalls the iconic artwork of Kendrick “Kunkka” Lim that graced Dota’s loading screens in the aughts. At its best, Dragon’s Blood lives up to that shot, concocting vibrant visuals that evoke the game’s rich history, but, for the most part, the show loses itself in inaccessible esoterica. Like war, exile, and scaly metamorphosis, it’s all quite messy.
The journalist from QiiBO noted that the authors of DOTA: Dragon's Blood have created not only interesting protagonists but also figures that feel real and make their own decisions for various reasons:
If I had to compare DOTA: Dragon's Blood to other shows, I'd say it's the best Game of Thrones style show ever, giving us challenging characters. We have not only heroes and villains, but also figures who make questionable decisions for noble, uncomfortable or selfish reasons, depending on how you look at it.
The journalist from Mama's Geeky claims that although she has not played Dota 2, but the series will be interest to all fantasy lovers:
Overall DOTA: Dragon’s Blood is a really fantastic anime. The style of animation is gorgeous, making a lot of scenes simply beautiful to look at. There is an intriguing main story line, and a side one that eventually gets there, even though it does create viewers to pull out of the show at first. The score and cinematography raise this show to a whole new level and if you like gore and blood in your animes, you are in for a special treat!
The journalist from Geeks of Color says that the backstory of each character is filled with a lot of conflict and attraction, which in itself represents an incredible new adventure:
DOTA is the definition of a strong foundation. Each character’s backstory is packed with a wealth of conflict and appeal, that the little we do get from them, is well worth the watch. The fantasy setting is, likewise, undeniably an engaging genre. Plenty of anime fans are craving for a magical medieval story with all the ingredients for an epic journey; DOTA: Dragon’s Blood offers that in full. From extraordinary action to compelling character introductions, the series sets up a remarkable new adventure.
The release of the anime «DOTA: Dragon's Blood» will take place on March 25 at the Netflix online cinema.
