As Belov Dmitry “Korb3n” Call
Slardar: the best hero in patch 7.38. Thanks to the map rework that occurred in this patch,
Slardar is now an absolute beast because he gains a lot of water bonuses.
The
Team Spirit manager provided his commentary on this matter during a Twitch stream.
“Slardar is an absolute monster now, If he is not nerfed he is going to stay strong for a while. He gets water bonuses that are there is now even more water. Forest ‘herring’ basically. They haven’t fixed the hero at all. He’s still as strong in the water like he always was. It’s small, but it’s nice. It definitely makes a difference in early game. With aghanim’s, it’s even better. The hero has 36 armor, and this is without equipping a single armor item”
Korb3n bluntly stated that the nerfing of
Slardar passive made it so, that in the Free Waters update,
Slardar was buffed tremendously. The Guardian Sprint ability is enhanced when
Slardar is in the water. The ability already gives him bonuses to speed, armor, and health regeneration, and
Slardar in the water gives even greater bonuses.
With the addition of the Wandering Waters Update, these buffs were nerfed to only function within the river but with this patch, slardar is stronger than the vast majority of opponents from the first minute of the match considering he is now the best in the water.
It’s notable that Valve greatly redesigned the map of Dota 2 in patch 7.38, implementing profound changes to the gameplay and hero mechanics as well.
