Avery “SVG” Silverman thinks that patch 7.41 is a miscalculation by Valve, because it basically rolls Dota 2 back and makes the game more balanced, but less fun.
He talked about it during a podcast.
“This patch feels very strange. It’s the first time I see a patch where ‘power creep’ actually goes backwards. There were patches where things got nerfed, but it was more like fine tuning”
According to him, the developers broke their own philosophy of how the game should evolve, which could hurt Dota 2 in the long run and reduce the fun factor.
“Dota always had this idea: if everything is broken, then nothing is broken. Everything feels fun and imbalanced, if done right. I think removing aspects kinda rolls this back, and it will be worse over time. Even if it’s all done for balance. But is a more balanced game actually more fun?”
He also said that imbalance and broken mechanics or heroes were always part of Dota 2. SVG believes that changing this approach and such gameplay updates can make the game better in terms of balance, but at the same time remove the fun, and watching matches becomes less interesting.
