Quinn Explains Why He Retired from Dota 2

Quinn Callahan stated that his career took too much out of him last year, which is why the esports player decided to retire from the pro scene and move into the analyst booth.

The player made this statement in an interview with Medium.

“I really don’t like the idea of chasing a ghost. I think that’s the surest way to get stuck in a vicious cycle of constant unhappiness. I just didn’t have the strength left. Last year, I was exhausted. God, I felt so bad. I had neither the energy nor the desire to play public matches. I realized this couldn’t go on. I had been unhappy for a very long time.

I thought, “Okay, I can choose something that will make me unhappy again, or I can hang out with friends and talk about Dota.” It was a pretty obvious choice.”

Acording to Quinn Callahan, the esports player was too tired of both matchmaking games and official matches. Moreover, participating in tournaments was constantly accompanied by severe anxiety. The esports player admitted that losses took a heavy toll on his self-esteem, and the chance to relax emotionally only came with victories.

“Many people say they hate matchmaking but love competing in tournaments. I hated everything. Playing official matches was even more agonizing than playing in public games. I felt incredibly anxious.

I’d wear myself out all day, and then I’d go play. If we lost, I’d suffer until the end of the day. I had to watch replays and agonize over the thought that we were talentless. If we won, I’d think: “God, it’s finally over.” After that, I’d rest for a few hours, go to sleep, wake up—and it would all start over again.”

As a reminder, Quinn “Quinn” Callahan previously supported Valve after the removal of aspects in Patch 7.41 for Dota 2.
