Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov, a streamer and a former esports professional, came up with the idea to introduce a random system in Dota 2 where players could randomly be assigned one of twenty heroes for the game before the game begins.
He presented this notion while streaming on his Twitch channel.
“I’d love to have a random system – Self Random. So I’d select 20 heroes and, by clicking random, I’d get one of those heroes. The other day, I was looking at a patch which had a random system that said something like it pulls from the pool of the top 40 heroes… but sometimes a hero that isn’t even in my first 40 pops up”
He further explained how it helped in increasing the competitiveness of matchmaking for generic players who only have a handful of key heroes available as they are first pick. In addition, he further added that it would result in better drafts and would introduce greater variability factor in the matches.
Earlier, NS also was critical against Valve, no holds barred critique of the Frostivus 2024 is available on its website.
