Former esports player and streamer Alexander "Nix" Levin has voiced his discontent on the way the groups were formed by the organizers at The International 2024 since there are no eliminations, thus making the tournament more boring for the audience.
He said so during the Twitch session.
"To tell the truth, I am completely devoid of pre-International ‘butterflies’. I think it’ s just another online event like the rest. There used to be more admiration prior to Riyadh. If we have come to this, Streamers Battle is more entertaining than The International, it's a shame”
This year, in contrast with previous years, there is little to no build up TIL3 for the fans which is unfortunate. In addition to that Nix said that there is something very weird about the format at TI2024 which may eventually bore the spectators because the first stage starts with a round robin and no teams are cut out from the groups.
"I mean, the mindset of those who choose to formulate groups like this, where there are no eliminations, is something I truly do not comprehend. How do people even look that? Just for your information, BO2 groups, where no one gets eliminated. Why would one not go for a Swiss system? It’s not really about the prize money. The International has always been a festival of Dota. There was always some action, some buzz, some qualifiers, the Compendium"
Nix explained that the organizers should have applied a Swiss format instead, one that he said would’ve been better for the audience and fans. Besides, he underscore that what the problem is with regards to this year’s World Championship is not who got less prize money as it is the spirit of festivities which has always been a side show to this e-sporting event.
Previous, Vladimir "Maelstorm" Kuzminov told that Valve may announce a big Deadlock tournament at The International 2024.
