Alexander “Nix” Levin noted that this year, the prize pool for the League of Legends World Championship greatly exceded that of The International 2025 for Dota 2.
The streamer made this statement on Twitch.
“TI14 has a prize pool of $2.88 million, while Worlds has $5 million. LoL has surpased Dota in terms of prize money.”
Acording to Alexander “Nix” Levin, Dota 2 is beginning to lose ground to League of Legends not only in terms of audience interest, but also in terms of the average prize pool size for Tier 1 tournaments. The streamer believes that high prize pools used to be a feature of the Dota 2 pro scene, and winning The International could provide an esports player with a lifetime of financial security, but modern tournaments do not offer such earnings.
“Dota players used to boast about The International, saying that if they won the tournament, they would be set for life.”
It is worth noting that the total prize pool for Tier 1 Dota 2 tournaments in 2025 slightly exceeds that of League of Legends, second only to Counter-Strike 2, but the amounts have become significantly lower compared to previous years. The tournament with the record prize pool was The International 2021, where teams competed for more than $40 million.
Earlier, Alexander “Nix” Levin recalled how he bought an account from Arena commentator “VeRsuta” Zurabyan to play Dota 2.
