Alexander "Nix" Levin stated that Valve has started focusing on low MMR players when releasing new Dota 2 patches and is buffing heroes that are uninteresting to esports players. According to him, patch 7.37b is a prime example of this approach.
The well-known streamer shared this opinion during a Twitch stream.
"It's default. The dev is banning what's taking him out at 2k MMR because he's fixing Wraith King, a hero that nobody plays at all. Obviously, this hero is extremely simple. You don't need any super deductive abilities here: the hero isn't played in competitive or at high MMR. From this, we can conclude that the dev is a low MMR player who just fixes what beats him in matchmaking"
Moreover, Nix believes that the developer responsible for the patches is a low-ranked player who bases their decisions on their own matchmaking experience and nerfs anything that defeats them. However, Valve does listen to the community's voice, and the most significant issues have been addressed.
"Obviously, he went after the top heroes, nerfing Tinker and Ember Spirit, who had absurdly high win rates. Any hero with over a 55% win rate is a broken imba. And Tinker and Ember Spirit were around 58%, so they were completely broken"
Nix thinks that the problems with Dota 2 patches started about three years ago. The streamer suggests that this might be a consequence of IceFrog, one of the game's founders, leaving the development team.
"Obviously, people on Reddit complained about it, plus he fixed a few heroes that were beating him at 2k MMR, and he buffed himself a few supports. These kinds of patches have been coming out for three years since IceFrog left, and I'm not surprised at all"
It's worth noting that earlier, players reached out to Valve regarding the critical nerf of Dota 2's top hero. They are asking the developers to reconsider their decision.
