Malr1ne Reflects on the Future of the Dota 2 Pro Scene

Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak believes that the situation in the Dota 2 pro scene can still improve, despite major esports organizations leaving the discipline.

The player made this statement on Twitch.

“Most likely, it will go like this: organizations will leave, and then Dota will come back to life. Dota was alive when people were really into it. The problem here isn’t even that the game is hard. The problem is always the fans—that is, the fanbase. CS thrives on its fanbase because there are people to watch, people to donate, and people to buy tournament tickets. Thanks to the donors—to put it bluntly, ordinary working folks who live, watch, and enjoy the game.

It’s hard to enjoy Dota. First of all, there are no LAN events. Dota was alive, probably, at TI10, when there was a compendium and so much content. In short, if they at least make skins for Dota—a lot of skins—then interest will seriously grow. At the very least.”

According to Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak, for the game to be popular, developers need to create more unique content around it to attract fans. The esports player believes the main reason for the decline of the pro scene right now is the weak influx of new fans and players, as well as a loss of interest in the discipline among the old-school fanbase.
