Vladimir “Maelstorm” Kuzminov gave the updated MMR system in Dota 2 a positive review and believes the game has long needed such changes.
The commentator shared this opinion with CyberMeta.
“It’s obvious that the rating needed to be either reset to zero or at least have the top tier capped due to endless inflation. The fact that they basically left the mid and lower tiers untouched and only capped the top—or rather, they didn’t even cap it, but compressed it without changing the rankings—I think that’s awesome. It’s exactly this kind of inflation—where the rating constantly flows into the system because it can’t go below zero, but it also grows indefinitely. This has created an interesting situation now: you don’t have to play for several years to reach the top. Starting from a zero-rated account, you can immediately end up somewhere near the top, so to speak. I think it’s become much more balanced.”
According to Vladimir “Maelstorm” Kuzminov, under the new system, promising newcomers won’t have to spend years climbing to the top of the rankings, as was previously the case due to MMR inflation. The commentator believes that it’s now possible to reach the top ranks much faster. The content creator also praised the fact that the changes didn’t significantly affect players’ rankings; instead, the range of possible ratings has narrowed.
As a reminder, Danil “Dendi” Ishutin previously shared his thoughts on the updated MMR system in Dota 2.
