Ilya “Kiritych” Ulyanov, the carry of BetBoom Team, said that scammers tried to trick him during a match and even managed to get a code from him, but in the end everything turned out fine.

The esports player shared his story on Telegram.

“No. Basically, while I was playing a pub, I was supposed to get a device delivery today, and I told them the code from my phone. Looks like **** all my bank accounts, and I’m still in a pub. Looks like, guys, I might have to leave the game. I told the scammer the ***** code. Because I’m playing Dota and I don’t even think someone will **** me. Because I really was supposed to get a delivery today. I blocked the card, no money was taken. But I don’t know how they could scam me — loans or something else”

Kiritych explained that the scammers asked for the code while he was playing matchmaking, so he didn’t really think he was being deceived. Later, however he clarified that even though he gave them the code, everything ended without serious consequences.

“I was waiting for a delivery. Within a few hours the courier was supposed to call. I was waiting for that call, a girl called me, and I thought: ‘Well, probably the courier’. We started talking about my order. At that moment I was in total loss of focus: sitting there, playing Dota, drafting players, then heroes not thinking at all, just wanted to get everything done quickly.

She says: ‘We can’t find your order for some reason. A code will arrive now, please tell me the four digits so we can assign a courier’. I was like: ‘Yeah, sure, sure’. A four-digit code arrived, I told it to her. Then after like 5–10 seconds the call drops, and some auto message says: ‘Due to suspicion, this is scammers, the call is being ended’. And that’s when it hit me”.

After that, the player immediately blocked all his bank cards and changed his passwords to avoid any problems.

“I immediately froze all my bank cards, that was the main thing. Then I changed passwords everywhere, checked logins. In the end, nobody did anything. I reacted fast, so everything is fine. Guys, be careful. These people are scamming hard”.

Kiritych noted that he managed to avoid any financial losses, but warned fans to stay cautious so they don’t end up in a similar situation.
