INSaNiA commented on the 7.41b meta

Aydin “INSaNiA” Sarkoy is unhappy that developers are buffing items in Dota 2 while nerfing heroes in recent updates.

The player shared this opinion on YouTube.

“I hate the fact that items are getting stronger while heroes are getting weaker. After all, everything is interconnected, right? I think Quinn and I have similar ideas about what the ideal Dota should be, which, of course, not everyone will agree with. But we’ve always said that we prefer it when items aren’t the only criterion for victory, and Dota isn’t decided by buying artifacts. And the more we move in this direction, the less important hero selection becomes, and the less you need to think about picking characters that synergize well with each other. By promoting this style of play—which is boring for esports—we already know who will win the match because it’s obvious from the items.

Everything will simply come down to a gold advantage. You’re not promoting esports Dota, and you’re not creating an engaging viewing experience by making items and gold more important, while character skills used at the right time become less significant. I think that in an ideal world, everyone focuses specifically on skill usage. You watch teamfights, not item comparisons: one has a Black King Bar and a Butterfly, and the other has a Black King Bar and an Eaglesong."

According to Aydin “INSaNiA” Sarkoia, the outcome of matches should not be determined by item purchases, a view on which the esports player agrees with Quinn “Quinn” Callahan. INSaNiA also noted that the increased importance of items makes the draft process less significant, which makes Dota 2 more boring from an esports perspective. The player added that viewers watch team fights, not item purchase statistics, which is why the developers are doing a great disservice to esports.

As a reminder, Quinn “Quinn” Callahan previously saw the removal of hero aspects as a positive development.
