Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen believes that playing with smurf accounts helps professional players hide their strategies from competitors.
This opinion was shared by the former professional Warcraft III player on his personal Twitter account.
“1) I think smurfing in multiplayer games (especially team games) is not great and should be countered as Valve is doing in DOTA2
2) HOWEVER (hot take begins) pros kind of need it since it's the best way to HIDE which heroes/strategies they're practicing”
Grubby also adds that in the times of Warcraft III, smurfing was an integral part of professional players' training, as not everyone had the opportunity to privately practice with partners. According to the former esports athlete, smurfing helps throw smoke trails and confuse opponents.
It's worth noting that earlier, Rostislav "Rostislav_999" Portasenya and Dmitry "Korb3n" Belov discussed the bans of professional players during a live broadcast.
