The organizers of the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 tournament may have known about Valve's plans to release Patch 7.35 during the event and approved it.

This assumption was voiced by Yaroslav 'NS' Kuznetsov, a streamer and former esports player, during a Twitch broadcast.

"Well, a gift, so to speak, Gaben brought to the players at ESL for the New Year to make it more fun for them. I'm almost sure, like, at least a lot, that this action is coordinated, in fact, with ESL. Because the only ones who don't like it are the players. Because they are like, 'What the ****? We have a tournament, we have a game to play in six hours, and here comes the patch.' And, of course, people are in **** because they have to somehow figure things out at least in something"

It is worth noting that ESL itself has not yet commented on such sudden changes in the game in the middle of the final part of the first major Dota 2 tournament after The International.

Valve released a massive Patch 7.35 just a few hours before the start of the ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 playoff matches. Additionally, the holiday event Frostivus 2023 was officially launched.
