Former Dota 2 player, now extremely popular streamer Vitaliy "Arthas" Tsyal (Papich) reflected on his potential to qualify for The International during his prime in Dota 2. According to Arthas, he could easily make it to the main Dota 2 event, but would end up in last place because he is not a team player.
The content creator discussed this during one of his live streams on YouTube.
In my prime, I could have made it to TI, but I would be in the top 16 because I can't play as part of a team. That didn't satisfy me. I didn't want to professionally play Dota just to finish in the top 16 - that's bull****. I knew I would never win a major tournament like TI, so I didn't see the point in pursuing it.
I'm interested in being either the best or nothing. It's not interesting to be just anyone. I knew that being top 1 at TI was impossible, but top 1 in the ladder was possible. The choice was simple. I didn't want to settle for top 16 at TI.
In my view, that's a failure. You dedicate your life to Dota, work hard as a player, and end up in the top 16 - those are all failures, and I don't resonate with that.
