Ilya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk, the
Team Spirit carry, explained that he doesn’t want to be the top-1 player of the European Dota 2 ladder because, according to him, the top-1 ranked player never wins tournaments — like some kind of curse.
He talked about this in a new vlog on the team’s YouTube channel.
“You aiming for top-1? No, top-1 is a curse. Not a single person who was first, except flyfly, won any tournament. I remember flyfly was top-1, Emo was top-2, their offlaner JT- was top-3, and they won the tournament. It was the One Esports Singapore Major 2021”
According to Yatoro, there’s a superstition on the pro scene that players holding the top-1 ladder spot don’t win events, and that’s exactly why he doesn’t want to be the one leading the rating. He says only flyfly managed to win a Major while being top-1 on the ladder.
Earlier, Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev also explained why Yatoro supposedly doesn’t play like he used to anymore.
