Ilya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk, the former carry of
Team Spirit, stated that Valve no longer releases sets from pro players in Dota 2 because it is not profitable for the developers; the money goes to the esports athletes.
The two-time world champion shared this during a Twitch stream.
"Why don’t they release sets from pro players? Because it’s not profitable for Valve; the money doesn’t go into their pockets but to the pro players, teams, and so on. There was the Dota 2 Asia Championships in 2015, where the prize pool... They released a compendium in Dota for this tournament, and the prize pool became $3 million, if I’m not mistaken, while at that time The International had $5 million. So they decided, 'Are you kidding me? I'm not going to do that anymore,' and they banned it. Well, they didn’t ban it, but they stopped practicing it"
The star player noted that when it comes to releasing content related to teams or esports athletes, Valve has to share the sales profit. According to Yatoro, this is precisely why they have abandoned such practices.
Despite this, quite a few skins for heroes have been released that gained popularity within the Dota 2 community.
Recall that earlier, Yatoro shocked fans with an honest confession after leaving the pro scene.
