Andrey «x3m4eg» Grigoriev - General Director of Maincast studio, commented on the updated Streaming rules that streamers must adhere to when broadcasting tournaments.
x3m4eg is sure that with the release of these rules update, the situation with unscrupulous streamers should improve:
First of all, we are very glad that Valve drew attention to this problem in the Dota 2 discipline, it also existed in CS:GO, but after the Starladder Berlin Major, specific rules of the game were introduced, which very quickly solved the problems as influencers, content makers as well as tournament operators and studios. In Dota, Valve has officially published its position regarding the content of tournament operators for a long time, but they were not clearly formulated, and the parties could not always agree. With the release of today's update, I am sure that the situation will improve and the rules are now clear for all parties. And streamers will be able to show matches of tournament operators if they wish, and tournament operators won't lose in monetization. Are these innovations enough? It is difficult to say so far, in my opinion, the situation should improve dramatically, but it will take some time until these rules are polished.
In addition, Andrey believes that Valve should add “Fantasy Leagues” so that the audience does not lose interest in the tournaments:
This is a very difficult topic for the entire esports market, both for tournament operators, studios, teams, players, commentators, as well as for viewers and advertisers. On the one hand, it is very cool that in the era of the pandemic we had and still have the opportunity not to stop the competitions, but, unfortunately, over the past six months, everyone has become rather boring with tournaments and leagues, although they differ in format, but still without stadiums. Without spectators, or at least without additional incentive for teams and players in the form of rating points, it is very difficult to maintain interest in matches and motivation of players. I am very impressed by Valve's approach to CS:GO with their RMR tournaments, which provide additional motivation for players to get to the Major tournament and add interest to the audience. In Dota 2, we were looking forward to the start of regional DPC leagues, which could have a similar effect as RMR in CS, now, apparently, we will have to wait until the first quarter of 2021. How to increase interest in matches? I think we need to definitely introduce additional motivation from the developers, from the same Valve. Implement a Fantasy League for each tournament, add Fantasy to the compendium, develop various ratings and also post them in the game client, add rewards for them. The very motivation from tournament operators in the form of prize money and other financial investments is clearly not enough, even if the huge prize money is at stake. Let's hope that Valve will make something and the DPC season will resume as soon as possible.
