Valve has replaced the registration of Dota 2 “pro-accounts” with the creation of an “official account”, which requires mandatory acceptance of a new user agreement with a number of conditions.
The new terms were explained by Telegram channel Degaz:
"You grant Valve the right to distribute, display and otherwise use your appearance, name, biographical information, statements and any other audio or visual material featuring you worldwide during the season - in any form or media related to the season, including computer games, videos, promos and advertisements - without additional compensation from Valve.
Valve may also reuse materials created during the season for archival or promotional purposes after the season has ended. You agree that any audio, video or other data obtained by or for Valve related to your participation in the season will belong to Valve"
Pro players are now officially consenting to the use of their images in promotional materials - at no cost to Valve. It is indicated that the developers of Dota 2 plan to activate and bring the next season to a whole new level, as it previously happened with CS2.
It is also noted that the possible purpose of updating the user agreement is to obtain a legal basis for the active promotion of Dota 2 and tournaments with the help of player images.
Valve themselves have not yet commented on their decision and did not explain what the main message of the new rules for pro players is.
Earlier, Valve finally announced the starting prize pool for The International 2025.
