Valve released an urgent update to Dota 2, which despite its small size, fixed three critical bugs in the game. Exploiting these bugs completely disrupted matchmaking balance.
The update targeted exploits involving three heroes:
Warlock,
Meepo, and
Witch Doctor. Each of them could exploit bugs to earn a significant amount of experience points or gold.
The
Meepo bug occurred when a player moved
Manta Style to the neutral item slot and filled the remaining slots with
Iron Branch. After disconnecting and reconnecting to the game, other players could use the neutral item to create endless copies, which could then be sold after reconnecting.
The issue with
Warlock was related to the Black Grimoire aspect. The hero needed to purchase
Manta Style, and when illusions were created, other characters could gain experience books from each illusion. As for
Witch Doctor, he could earn additional passive gold thanks to the Gris-Gris ability.
Many players urged Valve to intervene as matchmaking balance was disrupted due to widespread bug exploitation. Therefore, Valve promptly responded to the situation and fixed the bugs. Whether there will be a wave of punishments for players who intentionally abused them has not been announced.
Developers of Dota 2 have announced a contest with the opportunity to win tens of thousands of dollars.
