Valve has made several significant changes to the rules of The International 2024, altering the number of participants in the world championship as well as the system of direct invites.
This information comes from an announcement by Dota 2 developers dedicated to the premier esports event in this discipline.
One of the main innovations is that this year, the battle for the title of world champions will involve not 20 teams, as in previous seasons, but only 16 squads from around the globe. This also means that participants will receive a larger share of the prize pool regardless of their placement on the leaderboard.
Another crucial change is the return of the direct invite system, which will no longer be based on the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC). Now, Valve will independently decide which teams will receive an invitation to the world championship, as there is no DPC tournament cycle in this season. Practically every tournament throughout the year will now impact a team's chances of making it to TI13.

Additionally, the developers have promised to dedicate more time to the selection process. As for the size of the prize pool, there is currently no information available. Last year, The International 2023 prize pool was directly tied to the sales of the Compendium.
To recap, Valve previously officially announced The International 2024, which will take place in Copenhagen this year, and direct invites will be extended to the best teams chosen by the developers themselves.
