The latest update in Deadlock is the largest one yet, as all the well known esports athletes, as well as Dota 2 enthusiasts, have been waiting for a revamp in the ranking and MMR system, along with the overhaul it is getting — all thanks to Valve.
This was announced on the testers’ forum of the new game.
They did that by taking ranked matches out of the game. They launched one game which will use MMR scoring for players. The project rating will be modified according to its average and several other factors on a monthly basis. Valve also said that rating should be adjusted periodically in order to fit the average of that project; in that case, monthly updates should be enough, but it is going to be done at random.
In addition, it is expected that cross-hero roles would become a basis for creating personalized MMR accounts that will come into play when matchmaking takes place. In simpler terms, let’s say a player has no clue about how to use a certain hero or they do not play very well with him, they will be put into easier games with other inexperienced players.
Funny how that the timing of the match would be one of the factors to consider when making adjustments to MMR as well, for say, matches played at 5 o clock in the morning would see significantly less players online thereby limiting the “loss” of MMR.
In particular, the Dota 2 community has seen two time world champion Ilya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk and streamer, former pro Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov among other two Dota 2 celebrities, supporting such a change. These changes were long sought with indifference in the community.
This update raises the possibility that similar changes could be achieved by the Dota 2 community in major updates in the future.
