It became known that Valve demanded from tournament operators of ESL and DreamHack to revise the tiebreaker rules of Dota Pro Circuit 2021: Season 1 for CIS and Europe.
Analyst Ben «Noxville» Steenhuisen was the first to report this on Twitter:
Announced publicly in the Liquipedia discord a few minutes ago - and it turns out Valve has instructed ESL/DH to make their tiebreakers be identical to the other regions.
Doesn't affect EU Upper Division - could impact CIS though (and lower divisions!).
COO of Natus Vincere Alexey «xaoc» Kucherov reacted to the new changes in the rules on Twitter:
The perfect crime from Valve.
They change the rules for leaving groups one match before the end of group stage.
P - Planning at the highest level.
The next time can already be changed after all matches. Just to add intrigue.
They changed the rules for leaving the groups, and now personal matches are not decided anymore. Therefore the VP needs to be beaten twice in order to take the 1st place.
And all the bootcamps, tickets, etc., everything was planned for a long time. Now it turns out that everything needs to be changed.
The tiebreak rules are now the same with the rest of the regional DPC leagues. It remains unclear why the rules in CIS and Europe were different from other and why they decided to change them almost at the end of the season.
So, if Natus Vincere can defeat Virtus.pro in the final match, which will be held on February 26, they will have to play again. Prior to the introduction of the new rules, NaVi would have had enough to win once, because the result of the last match would be considered the result of a personal meeting.
The Lower division tiebreakers of Europe will be on Saturday, 27 Feb, starting from 12:00 CET.
The decider matches of the EU Upper Division will be on Sunday, 28 Feb, starting after the CIS tiebreakers.
