Valve changed the Dust2 map, and then suddenly reverted the changes

CS2 Update

Valve made small changes to the map Dust II in Counter-Strike 2. The update affected the Xbox object in the middle of the map — one of the most well-known spots used by players to control short on Dust II.

After the update, players noticed that the box had a new feature: a player could completely hide behind it so that the head model was no longer visible from short. Previously, when taking this position, part of the head would still stick out above the object, which meant the player could be spotted.

This change allowed the defending side to hold mid much more safely and gather information without the risk of being instantly seen.

However, the update didn’t last long. Just a few hours later the developers from Valve released a quick rollback and returned the old Xbox model, where the player’s head is again partially visible when holding that position.

The reasons for this decision were not officially explained. It is possible that the change was unintentional, or that the developers considered the new mechanic too strong for the defending side, since it could seriously affect the balance of the map and make controlling mid much easier.

So for now, Xbox on Dust II works the same as before, and players once again have to consider the risk that their model can be seen when trying to hold that position.
