Alexander “TORONTOTOKYO” Khertek said that the organization
Team Spirit received only about 9% of the record prize money that the team earned at The International 2021.
The world champion shared this during a stream of Roman 'RAMZES666' Kushnarev.
“Spirit had a little less than players usually give, something like 11% or maybe 13%. The funny thing is that before that TI we signed new contracts. There was a clause about the organization cut from TI prize money. They made it so that the higher our placement was, the less money the org would get. We didn’t even ask for that, so respect for it. If we finished first, the cut was 9%. But I think they didn’t expect that we would actually win. At the next TI there was no such condition anymore”
TORONTOTOKYO noted that usually the organization took around 11–13%, but before the world championship the conditions were rewritten and became more favorable for the players.
As a result, Team Spirit won about $18.1 million in prize money, while the organization received around $1.6 million, although these numbers were mentioned before taxes.
The esports player also added that the club probably did not expect the team to take first place, since at the next International such conditions were no longer included in the contracts. Nevertheless, he thanked the organization for that decision and expressed respect for it.
Considering these numbers, it can be assumed that the members of the roster, including the coach and manager, could have received around $2.36 million each before taxes, although the exact distribution of the prize money was not officially disclosed.
