Eric "TOfu" Engel stated that he was happy with the victory over
Team Spirit and mentioned that he was the only member of the team who wanted to play the first playoff match against this particular opponent because he felt it was necessary to seek revenge.
This statement was made by
Gaimin Gladiators' support player in an interview with the organizers of the BetBoom Dacha Dubai 2024 championship during a Twitch broadcast.
"In fact, I don't want to play with expectations, but I had a good feeling. Actually, I wanted to play against
Team Spirit, although the rest of the team wanted to face
Xtreme Gaming more. But I wanted a rematch, so to speak. So I'm glad we beat them."
As
Gaimin Gladiators' defeat to
Team Spirit at The International was their last encounter, it's likely that TOfu was referring to that match.
The esports player also commented on the team's performance in the group stage and admitted that the beginning of the championship was not the most successful for their lineup. Nevertheless,
Gaimin Gladiators dedicated a lot of time to training and finding a new approach to the game, which significantly raised their level before the match against
Team Spirit. The player acknowledges that if the team had played this match a day earlier, the result could have been different.
Recall that earlier Stanislav "Malr1ne" Potorak explained why
Team Falcons didn't want to start their playoff run with a match against
Team Spirit.
