Erik “Tofu” Engel revealed that Quinn “Quinn” Callahan’s departure from
Gaimin Gladiators and the professional Dota 2 scene was actually not related to the scandal at The International 2025 — the player had informed his teammates about his decision back in the middle of the previous season.
The esports athlete shared this in a comment to DotaNews.
“Quinn told us back in the middle of the season that he was going to retire. We all knew. After two second-place finishes at TI, he said that if he won, he would quit — that would be the perfect ending for him. When it happened, no one was shocked. We all communicated well and had time to calmly discuss everything and start building a new team.”
Tofu emphasized that
Gaimin Gladiators were well aware this would be Quinn’s final season and had already begun preparing for a roster rebuild. Nevertheless, he noted that the midlaner really wanted to attend TI14 and aimed to win it so that his retirement from the pro scene would be the perfect conclusion to his career.
In the end, the team failed to qualify for the Dota 2 world championship, and the roster eventually disbanded. Legal proceedings between the players and the organization are still ongoing.
