Erik “Tofu” Engel stated that he was indeed in talks with
Tundra Esports and was even planning to play with them, but ultimately chose
Team Liquid because of Marcus “Ace” Christensen.
He shared this in a comment to the Telegram channel DotaNews.
“I spoke with both teams, and the negotiations went well. I’ve wanted to play with Liquid for a long time. About six months ago, they were already interested in me, but back then, we were in the middle of a season with Gaimin Gladiators, so I said it wasn’t possible at that moment. Later, closer to TI, some things changed. Tundra also showed interest after Saksa stepped away from playing. At first, I was leaning toward Tundra — their situation looked more stable, while Liquid still had some role-related uncertainties. But then, a lot happened behind the scenes”
Tofu noted that
Tundra Esports reached out to him after Martin “Saksa” Sazdov stopped being part of the main roster. He emphasized that initially, he was more inclined to join Tundra because of the team’s stability. However, he eventually changed his mind because of his friend Ace.
“Liquid needed to fill two positions, and we could bring Ace along since they were also looking for an offlaner. That was the deciding factor for me — I wanted to keep playing with him because of our friendship, trust, and shared vision”
He explained that he and Ace share a similar understanding of the game, and he completely trusts him both as a teammate and as a professional.
It’s worth noting that earlier, No[o]ne shared how the team actually feels about Satanic.
