The International 2023 prize pool

Teams participating in TI12 and finishing below 9th place may receive $20,000 from the prize pool.

This idea was voiced by Janne "Gorgc" Stefanovski, a content creator from Sweden, during his personal Twitch stream. The relevant segment of the stream was published on the Ez Dotes channel.

"How much was given for last place at TI3? Everyone remembers the winner who received $1.4 million, but how much did the teams in 9th to 16th place get? Zero. Zero dollars. People forgot about all these teams. Half of them left with no prize money. However, if we look at TI11, all teams received some prizes: $50,000 [for places 17th to 9th] and much more for higher positions. <...> I think that this year, teams finishing in the last places will receive at least $20,000 if the format remains the same. Sometimes everyone forgets about the teams that participate but don't become winners."

It's entirely possible that the sum could increase if the prize pool can improve its fundraising dynamics.
