Dmitry “Korb3n” Belov said that the release of the global 8.00 update will depend on League of Legends moving to a new engine, which will push the developers to take action.
The
Team Spirit manager talked about this during a Twitch stream.
“How do you think, will patch 8.0 even come out? Listen, probably it depends on what LoL provides. LoL is moving to a new engine. And the most hardcore Dota players always said… I personally know people who told me they can’t play LoL because the graphics are terrible.
I think only if the competitors push hard, then we will wait for a move to a new engine. There is this vibe that it’s easier just to recode the whole game on a new engine, because Dota has such code crutches, it’s just horrible”
According to him, LoL is planning to switch to a new engine soon, which means a major graphics improvement. Korb3n believes that if Riot Games succeeds with these plans, it will push Valve to evolve Dota 2.
The manager also didn’t exclude the possibility that Dota 2 might move to a new engine as well, but noted that this could cause difficulties. According to him, the MOBA has a very complicated code with many strange solutions that keep the game running, and he notes that it might be easier for Valve to code a new game rather then update Dota 2.
