Syed “SumaiL” Hassan, a player for
Nigma Galaxy, shared his thoughts on the current Dota 2 meta, noting that the impact of midlaners has significantly decreased. According to him, the larger map has made the laning stage much less decisive than before.
The legendary mid laner shared this in a post-match interview on FISSURE Playground 2.
“The map is too big now for midlaners to have the same kind of impact they used to. Before, you could connect anywhere — there were five camps on each side, so you had a lot of map control. If you dominated a lane, especially mid, you had a huge influence on the game. It still helps now, but not as much”
He added that the abundance of farm available across the map makes early advantages less meaningful. Even if a midlaner wins the lane, opponents can quickly catch up through neutral camps and safe farming zones.
According to SumaiL, modern Dota 2 is now less dependent on midlaners and more focused on macro play and efficient resource distribution across the map.
