Aleksey "Solo" Berezin, the former captain of
9 Pandas, stated that older esports players find it difficult to play Dota 2 due to their busy schedules. According to him, age also plays a role, but renowned esports players cannot dedicate as much time to the game as they did in their youth.
He discussed this in an interview with the YouTube channel KD Cast.
"Age definitely affects how much time and energy you can dedicate to the game. Even without considering reaction time and natural reflexes, the older you get, the more responsibilities you have. You can't just wake up, yawn, play 20 pubs, discuss all the heroes and abilities with your peers, watch replays, and go to sleep like you could at 18"
He also admitted that he is not getting any younger and, although he still plays well, he is no longer at his peak form as he once was. However, he noted that older generation players can compete with younger ones through experience and strategic thinking.
"Can you play Dota until you're 40? Yes. Can you play Dota as well as the young players? No. You have to rely on other things—experience, strategies"
It is worth noting that earlier it was revealed that Solo might leave the professional Dota 2 scene after The International 2024.
