Shopify Rebellion will not participate in the Elite League due to several reasons related to the complexity of obtaining visas, long journeys, and having players from different regions in the team.
This was announced by a representative of the club on Reddit.
"It's a compromise that we felt we had to make due to the structure of our team. We couldn't play in DreamLeague Season 22, in the qualifiers for DreamLeague Season 23, at ESL One Birmingham 2024, at PGL Wallachia Season 1, and in this tournament. The visa process for all tournaments for Yopaj was impossible due to deadlines (all complicated by the UK leaving the EU)"
The organization also emphasized that fatigue played an important role, as athletes will have to travel a lot, which will affect their well-being and performance.
"Burnout was another factor, especially considering that our players are from different regions. People will be on the road for a significant part of the year. So, for now, we decided to prioritize DreamLeague and LAN tournaments"
The region of the team and tournament rules also played a significant role. According to the
Shopify Rebellion representative, non-European teams do not have the option to play from home, which also influenced the decision to withdraw from the tournament in favor of larger ones.
"This is definitely a disadvantage for non-European teams, as Europeans can play major online tournaments right from home if they want to. We don't have that option"
It's worth noting that their spot in the tournament will be taken by Clement "Puppey" Ivanov's team. However,
Team Secret has not yet announced the updated lineup with which they will compete in the Elite League.
