Quinn “Quinn” Callahan said that Dota 2 in North America is slowly dying because consoles are more popular in the region, and players also dont have the ability to fully dedicate their life to esports.
He said this during a Twitch stream.
“Basically, you either have to go to university in North America, or get a job, otherwise you just gonna starve.
Its not like in Europe or somewhere else, where there are social benefits and stuff that let you focus on things like this. You can dedicate yourself to pro gaming.
In North America consoles are way more common than PC clubs, and Dota is a PC club game. So it was just never that popular.
And combination of these factors basically made it inevitable that the game will just die”
According to him, unlike other regions, PC clubs were never popular in the US, and Dota 2 is not a console game. Also, esports is a much harder career path there, because there are less opportunities.
Quinn added that eventually Dota 2 may completely fade away from the NA region, as its popularity keeps dropping compared to other regions.
