A player has successfully sued Valve for $14,000, which he spent on skins

Valve has been ordered to compensate a gamer $14,096, which he spent on opening Counter-Strike cases. The company lost a court case in Austria, as the mechanics of loot boxes were deemed a form of gambling there, and the creators of CS2 and Dota 2 do not have the necessary license for it.

This information is reported by the publication GamesWirtschaft.de.

Richard Ebel, the executive director of the company Padronus, specializing in casino issues, noted that the judge handling the case was familiar with Counter-Strike and quickly grasped the subject, which is a rarity in legal matters related to video games.

In analogy with decisions in cases involving Sony and EA, the Salzburg law firm and representatives of Padronus were able to prove that the content of loot boxes, generated randomly, resembles elements of gambling. However, Valve still has the opportunity to file an appeal.
