P2E is our future, which is no longer in Dota 2

P2E, or play-to-earn, is a model in which the user receives something of value during the game or for some achievement. It can be anything that can be used or sold.
It was in Dota 2
Surprisingly, only a few years ago, Dota 2 fully lived up to this concept. Many people still remember the time when participating in free events it was possible to gain a set or item, and then sell it on the marketplace. The money received could be spent on other items or games.
This is what once attracted crowds of fans to the game, who eventually fell in love with it and play to this day. But over time, Valve's financial model has changed.

Previously, large events were held at regular intervals, such as the legendary Diretide, The Frostivus, The New Bloom, Dark Moon, Wild Pool and others.
Absolutely all of them were interesting, fun and some free for all. And most importantly, there was not only a competitive part, but also the opportunity to receive some valuable reward. And the items dropped from the game much more often.
Greed
What are players getting now? Updated event Aghanim's Labyrinth without rewards. Rewards, Cavern Crawl and even Arcana - everything is now in the Battle Pass, which must be purchased. And then you need to buy levels for the Battle Pass in order to get something from there.
Now everything is done so that the user brings the developer his money. At the same time, the developers themselves are not very involved in their project. Eternal bugs, rebalances, rarely patches and the old Morphling model. And as a cherry on the cake of this disgrace - low-quality sets from past years, which were placed in new expensive chests.

This could be justified if Valve spent this money on a game or for eSports. However, even the prize money of the Majors was halved, and the LAN tournament was canceled due to negligence and disgusting organization.
Even some of this money was spent on the creation of the animated series Dota: Dragon's Blood. The goal was simple - to attract a new audience. The anime turned out well. However, after the release of the Arcane anime by Riot Games, League of Legends developers, absolutely everyone saw a real gulf between the two competing projects. Animated series Arcane did not leave anyone indifferent and was much better.

DotA is not dying yet, the community is trying to support the game and everything related to it. However, the developers seem to be pulling everything into the abyss, trying to suck player's last money parting.
Alternatives
More and more new games adhere to the P2E model and thus attract new players. Many new projects began to integrate NFT.
In October 2021, Valve Corporation changed the Steam user agreement, which prohibited the creation of applications built on blockchain technology that issue or allow the exchange of cryptocurrencies or NFTs.

Thus, Valve decided to protect users from scammers. However, those who in the future could become a serious competitor for the giant corporation also suffered.
Valve's rationale for the NFT ban is that the use of such technologies will eventually create a gray market for virtual goods that will have real value. However, the paradox is that more and more players are looking for profit in games.
In the meantime, the Epic Games Store gaming platform is open and officially supports cryptocurrency-enabled blockchain game developers, but so far without NFT. Another problem is that such financial transactions require a third-party platform.
Other developers are not standing still and are already developing NFT MOBA games. One such game is League of Ancients, which will be similar to Dota 2 and LoL in many ways. As in other games, the player will have a wallet and inventory, but it will consist of NFT items.

It's a shame that such a concept would fit perfectly into Dota 2. However, as mentioned above, developers are too lazy to do this. Moreover, due to restrictions on the sale of in-game items on the Steam marketplace and changing chests, Valve has destroyed what previously attracted players. Now all these mistakes will be taken into account, but by other developers in other projects.
