Alexey “OverDrive” Biryukov considers the VRS system in professional Counter-Strike 2 ineffective, as it allows weak teams to undeservedly qualify for major tournaments.
The analyst shared this opinion on Telegram.
“The VRS system is complete crap. Faze, after having a terrible season, can get a slot just because they went to a Tier 100 tournament somewhere in a basement near Belgrade. Meanwhile, another team beats Faze on technical points and can go to a Major because of that.
There’s no logic to it. It’s simply the richer team that wins—the one that can grind through Tier 3 tournaments and farm up points. Teams without big budgets can forget about the Major because, even if they win a lot, it won’t help them—after all, the rich teams will just play twice as much.”
As an example, Alexey “OverDrive” Biryukov cited Faze, who lost to a clearly weaker team due to a technical defeat in a minor tournament, thereby giving their oponents the oportunity to play in the CS2 Major. The analyst noted that the VRS system is illogical, since weak teams with large budgets can easily qualify for a major tournament by playing a large number of matches.
As a reminder, Alexey “OverDrive” Biryukov previously reflected on the prospect of roster changes for Team Spirit in Counter-Strike 2.
